One aspect of identity a person wouldn't be able to see just by looking at you.

One aspect of identity a person wouldn't be able to see just by looking at me is that I'm not hispanic. People think that I'm hispanic but I'm Actually Cape Verdean. People at school thought that I was spanish for about 2-3 months. but when our teacher told us to play a game and tell 2 truth and a lie. I said I was Cape Verdean, I have a dog, and I'm like snakes. people all thought that the Cape Verdean quote was more of a lie instead of the other two but the snake quote was more of a lie. After i told them that I was Cape Verdean everyone was in shock. But another example of some one that thought that I was hispanic is when I started the program. My writing teacher Mr. Martinez though I was Spanish. He started talking to me in spanish but when i told him I was cape verdean he said that i dont look cape verdean but i always get that and it is ok. But this an aspect of identity a person wouldn't be able to see just by looking at me.

  2. Emily, as I mentioned to Julissa, I would love to know more about Cape Verde and your background. Hopefully we'll get to go a little deeper with the next big essay. Until then, thanks for sharing a lesser-known part of your identity with us!
